The First Challenge - How to get started

Registration for the competition element of this Challenge has now closed. However, you can still download all of the materials to use in your classroom or clubs.

The first STEM Challenge takes students through some of the steps involved in designing and siting a new building.

We've asked teams to come up with ideas for a National Handball Centre. We will use the London 2012 Handball Arena as an example, but we want students to come up with their own ideas.

Challenge one has now finished. You can still access all of the resources from this page.

Rules and conditions of entry

Each STEM Challenge is launched as a competition. During the competition phase, entries will be judged and there are some big prizes available for each one. Make sure you are familiar with the conditions of entry before entering a team.

Once the competition element has passed, we would still encourage schools to use the Challenges as a club or classroom resource for pupils - they are all curriculum linked!
